Separating this from cluster
Neuralgia is extremely brief, and the person is often pain-free between shocks. Cluster lasts tens of minutes and brings restlessness and autonomic signs. Persistent, dull facial pain, without shocks and without cluster bouts, is a different diagnosis and should not be treated by endlessly raising carbamazepine.
